Tool treated fans in Detroit to a huge surprise last night, as they dusted off “Undertow” for its first live performance in 20 years. The bust out came towards the end of Tool’s main set at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday.
“Undertow” is the title track from Tool’s 1993 debut album. The song was last played on April 29, 2002 as per Setlist.FM.
Tool are currently on the road for the North American leg of a tour in support of their Fear Inoculum album that ends in Cleveland on March 20. Maynard James Keenan and company delivered a nine-song second set and three-tune encore in Detroit. Outside of “Undertow,” the group stuck to tour staples last night, including an encore featuring Fear Inoculum tracks “Chocolate Chip Trip,” “Culling Voices” and “Invincible.”
