Visuals have always played a huge role in Tool's live shows, which would make the band an ideal fit to perform at Sphere in Las Vegas. Drummer Danny Carey dropped word in a new interview that Tool has “been talking” to operators of the venue about a residency supporting the release of their long-awaited sixth studio album.
Carey was speaking with The Spiral Out Network about his role in the music for the new film Good Luck Have Fun Don’t Die when talk turned to Sphere and the follow-up to 2019’s Fear Inoculum. “[We’re] working on a lot of new Tool songs now, hopefully 2027, that’s the goal,” the drummer said in regards to the next Tool album.
When the conversation turned to Tool’s reputation as a visual band, Carey talked about the band making their debut at the technologically advanced Las Vegas venue. “We’re hoping when we release the new record, maybe do a stint at the Sphere, ’cause I think we’re the perfect band for that. We’ve been talking to those guys,” Danny Carey noted.
“The preparation is pretty intense to get everything up to the high resolution and everything. It’s a very expensive endeavor and it takes a while to get into the black. I think it takes a few shows before you make any money, but we’re cut out for that, definitely,” Carey added.
Danny Carey has visited the venue once. “I just took a tour of it. I haven’t actually seen a full-on show, but we took [a tour] you know, just to show it off,” he said of Sphere. “It’s incredible, man, I almost got vertigo.”
