A new 38-track set entitled The Best Of Everything collects the late Tom Petty’s hits with The Heartbreakers, his solo work and Mudcrutch. The compilation, which is due out on November 16 through Geffen Records/UMe, includes two previously unreleased tracks one of which has been shared today.
The previously unreleased tracks on The Best Of Everything are an alternate version of the title track and “the poignant and autobiographical” song “For Real.” Petty & The Heartbreakers originally recorded “The Best Of Everything” for 1985’s Southern Accents. The alternate version brings back a never-heard second verse. Both 2-CD and digital versions will be released on November 16th with vinyl versions expected on December 7. Journalist/filmmaker Cameron Crowe penned an essay on Tom Petty, who passed away just over a year ago, for The Best Of Everything. All 38 tracks have been re-mastered for the compilation from “pristine transfers of the original studio multi-track masters.” Listen to “The Best Of Everything (Alternate Version)”:
