Tipitina’s Announces The Professor Longhair 100th Birthday Tribute

Influential pianist Henry Roeland “Roy” Byrd, a.k.a. Professor Longhair, was born in New Orleans on December 19, 1918. While Fess died in 1980, an impressive lineup of musicians will come together to celebrate what would have been his 100th birthday at Tipitina’s in New Orleans on December 19.

Bassist George Porter Jr. will serve as musical director for the evening, while Harry Shearer is aboard as the Master of Ceremonies. Ivan Neville, Cyril Neville, Jon Cleary, Marcia Ball, Zeke Fishhead, John “JoJo” Hermann, David Torkanowsky, Tom McDermott, Johnny Vidacovich, Deacon John, Kermit Ruffins, C.R. Gruver, Joe Krown, Herlin Riley, Alfred “Uganda” Roberts, John “Papa” Gros, Chris Adkins, Tony DaGradi, Tom Worrell, Reggie Scanlan, Earl Gordon, June Yamagishi, Lance Ellis and Roger Lewis round out the initial lineup for The Professor Longhair 100th Birthday Tribute. Tickets go on sale this Friday, November 9 via the venue’s website.
