Three Tour Debuts For Dave Matthews Band In Clarkston

Two of the tour debuts took place during the group’s acoustic set. “Little Red Bird,” an outtake from the Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King sessions was performed just by Matthews himself towards the middle of the acoustic stanza. The song was last played on May 26, 2012. At a 2010 show, Matthews shared the following about the tune, “I was visiting, a few years ago with a friend of mine, I was visiting these little tiny islands in the middle of the Indian Ocean and there was this little, little bird and it had just one leg. But it would come and bounce around underneath the chair, and so you knew it was that bird ’cause I’m sure there’s just not a bunch of tiny little red birds with one leg. So then I wrote this song over there a couple years ago or something like that.”
Later in the acoustic set the full band played “Typical Situation” for the first time in 2014. The Under The Table & Dreaming track was a staple of the group’s performances through the band’s early years, but was only performed five times in 2013. Last night’s electric set saw the tour debut of “The Stone,” a song off Before These Crowded Streets that was last played by the band during their 2013 South American Tour. DMB even threw in a little of Elvis Presley’s “I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You” during the outro. The Dave Matthews Band now heads to the Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, OH for a show tomorrow night.
