The Strokes headlined the Fuji Rock Festival at the Naeba Ski Resort in Yuzawa, Japan on Friday, June 28. The rockers’ set included the live debut of “Fear of Sleep” from their 2006 album, First Impressions Of Earth.
The “Fear Of Sleep” premiere came about halfway through the band’s main set. The tune by frontman Julian Casablancas was the final song from First Impressions Of Earth that had yet to see a live debut, as per Far Out Magazine. Watch The Strokes bring “Fear Of Sleep” into the live sphere at Fuji Rock below:
The Strokes kicked off their Fuji play with “The Modern Age” off their breakthrough 2001 debut album, Is This It. The band — Casablancas, guitarists Albert Hammond Jr. and Nick Valensi, drummer Fabrizio Moretti and bassist Nikolai Fraiture — then turned to material from their latest album, 2020’s The New Abnormal with “Bad Decisions” and “The Adults Are Talking,” which were split by “Automatic Stop” off 2003’s Room on Fire. The group also performed that album’s “Meet Me In The Bathroom” and another First Impressions cut, “You Only Live Once,” ahead of the “Fear Of Sleep” debut.

The tail end of the set saw performances of This Is It songs “Barely Legal,” “Soma,” the title track and “Someday” along with an apt delivery of “Welcome To Japan” from 2013’s Countdown Machine. After wrapping the set with “Reptilia,” the band returned to encore with Is This It’s “Hard To Explain,” The New Abnormal’s “Ode To The Mets” and the 2001 single “Last Nite” to cap the Fuji set.
