The Pretenders return with new album, Hate For Sale, through BMG. The 10-song set from Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders is their first new studio album since 2016’s Alone.
Originally slated for a May 1 release, Hate For Sale’s arrival date was pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Pretenders tapped renowned UK producer Stephen Street, whose resume includes The Smiths and Blur, to produce the new record. Hynde and Pretenders guitarist James Walbourne co-wrote all 10 tracks on the album marking their first full-length collaboration to date. Hate For Sale also sees the first time The Pretenders longtime touring band — Hynde, Walbourne, founding drummer Martin Chambers and bassist Nick Wilkinson — have teamed up in the studio.

The Pretenders previewed the LP with “The Buzz,” back in March, which Hynde detailed (and joked about) in a statement:
“I think we all know that love affairs can take on the characteristics of drug addiction,” she said. ‘The Buzz’ is about that. Not mine, of course – I’m never obsessive never obsessive never obsessive.”
