The Night Bill Murray Almost Took His Brother To A Dead Show

Recently actor Joel Murray of Mad Men fame was the guest on The Chive Podcast and one of the hilarious stories he told relates to the Grateful Dead. Joel told the tale of the night his brother Bill Murray was set to take him to a Grateful Dead show at Madison Square Garden.

The Murrays were on their way to MSG when Bill called an audible and took him to a sushi joint for an extended visit which angered Joel, who just wanted to see the Dead. Bill then took Joel to Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi’s The Blues Bar and later in the night in walked the members of the Dead besides Jerry Garcia. Each of the members of the Dead took the small stage at The Blues Bar and performed “Louie Louie” with Peter Aykroyd (Dan’s brother), Bill Murray and John Belushi. So while Joel didn’t get to see the Dead at MSG that night, he was certainly treated to a crazy experience.
