South Florida’s The Heavy Pets celebrated their tenth anniversary at the Funky Buddha Brewery and Lounge in Boca Raton, Florida on Friday and Saturday nights. Each performance had a different theme with Friday honoring the Beatles and Saturday honoring themselves.
The Heavy Pets offered the debut of The Walrus: A Beatles Tribute on Friday featuring guest appearances from The Lonely Horns Club composed of Rob Smiley (sax/flute), Trace Barfield (trumpet) and Daniel Larghi (trombone). On Saturday, The Heavy Pets presented It’s Going Down…Memory Lane in which they started with their oldest songs (ones written in high school) and progressed through their catalogue. The focus was put on playing deep cuts that you won’t typically find in the group’s current setlists. Fittingly, The Heavy Pets wrapped up the career-spanning show with their newest song, Mike Garulli’s “Carry The Man.”
