The Grateful Dead released pro-shot video of “Uncle John’s Band” for this week’s edition of their All The Years Live video series. The footage comes from the band’s June 25, 1993 concert at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C.
The performance features Bruce Hornsby — who will appear on this week's Shakedown Stream — sitting in on accordion for the Workingman’s Dead classic at RFK, a storied venue for the latter-day Dead. GD archivist David Lemieux gave some context for the show in his notes accompanying the video:
“The period between December 1992 and June 1993 was a late period peak for the Grateful Dead, when they came from their Fall 1992 hiatus with a renewed energy and focus,” he said. “At the end of the Summer Tour of 1993, the Dead hit RFK Stadium for two excellent nights, featuring Bruce Hornsby sitting in on accordion. This Workingman’s Dead classic was played 23 years after its studio debut, released in June 1970.”
