New York City-based band Widowspeak detailed a new album, Roses, arriving on June 5 through Captured Tracks. The group led by Molly Hamilton and Robert Earl Thomas also shared the lead single, “If You Change,” along with 2026 Summer Tour dates around the new record.

Roses marks Widowspeak’s first studio album since 2022, following The Jacket. Hamilton and Thomas captured the new LP at the Old Carpet Factory studio on the Greek island of Hydra along with Widowspeak touring members Willy Muse, John Andrews and Noah Bond. The band then sent the album for mixing by Alex Farrar at Drop of Sun Studios and mastering by Greg Obis at Chicago Mastering.

Founded 16 years ago, Widowspeak’s Molly Hamilton and Robert Earl Thomas are now a married couple who, along with music, also work day jobs. Thomas is a carpenter while Hamilton is a waitress. Press materials described how the daily routines of life, including work, seeped into the new record:

Roses is populated not with dramatic overtures but with the backdrop of the minutiae and repetition of daily acts. Small observations before, during, and after work: the ritual of pouring water for customers, catching a cold on your day off. Daydreaming about winning the lottery, or maybe realizing you already won.

Lead single “If You Change” examines how human nature is often at odds with the universal law of entropy, where the molecules that make up everything naturally evolve from order to disorder.

Hamilton said she “thought about the fear of change, and when things (situations, objects) feel stuck in time because of a fear of ruining them. You always hear ‘mint condition’ as though it is as an asset, but it also means that thing hasn’t been used, lived with, loved. It never gets to fulfill its destiny.”
