Tedeschi Trucks Band Kicks Off Final Run Of 2018 In Boston
By Jeffrey Greenblatt Nov 30, 2018 • 1:19 pm PST
On Thursday night, Tedeschi Trucks Band kicked off a three-night stand at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston. The trio of shows are the final gigs of the year for the rock and soul ensemble, who delivered a lengthy one-set performance at the historic 2,700-person capacity venue.
Tedeschi Trucks Band got their 13-song main set going with a pair of originals looking to “Don’t Let Me Slide” from 2011’s Revelator and “Don’t Know What It Means” from 2016’s Let Me Get By. Covers of Derek & The Dominos “Anyday” and Leonard Cohen’s “Bird On A Wire” followed. The mid-portion of the frame was highlighted by takes on “Midnight In Harlem,” “Laugh About It” and “Shame.”
The 12-piece act would dig in on the blues to close out their evening in Beantown. Johnny Moore’s Three Blazer’s “How Blue Can You Get?” got the stretch going. The cover was followed by a 13+-minute version of “I Want More” with a memorable powerhouse take on “Let’s Go Get Stoned” bringing things to a close. Tedeschi Trucks Band two-song encore saw them serve up two cuts from Sly & The Family Stone with “Sing A Simple Song” and “I Want To Take You Higher.” Listen to the entire show taped by Bob Hundertmark below:
