Tedeschi Trucks Band Previews Inaugural ‘Wheels Of Soul Tour’ On This Date In 2015

This summer, Tedeschi Trucks Band will hit the road for the fourth annual Wheels Of Soul Tour with Drive-By Truckers and The Marcus King Band. Wheels Of Soul was started by the TTB back in 2015. The inaugural run also featured Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings as well as guitarist Doyle Bramhall II. In a preview of what would come, Jones and Bramhall II sat-in with the Tedeschi Trucks Band a few weeks ahead of the tour’s start on this date in 2015 at Central Park SummerStage in New York City. An audience recording of the Tedeschi Trucks Band’s set has been selected as this week’s Full Show Friday pick.
The Tedeschi Trucks Band kicked off their set with a powerful rendition of “Made Up Mind,” the title track from their most recent album at the time of the show. Susan Tedeschi then led the group through the blues shuffle of “Do I Look Worried.” One of Derek Trucks’ strongest solos of the night took place during the “Midnight In Harlem” that followed. After “Get What You Deserve,” the guest action started.

Doyle Bramhall II was the first to emerge, as the guitarist added to covers of the Beatles’ “I’ve Got A Feeling,” Derek & The Dominos’ “Keep On Growing” and blues standard “Key To The Highway.” Bramhall II and Trucks, who both toured as part of Eric Clapton’s band in 2006 and 2007, went toe-to-toe at various points of the collaboration. Next up was the funky “There’s A Break In The Road” before the next collaboration.
Sharon Jones was a one-of-kind talent who sadly passed away on November 18, 2016. Three years ago today was the first time Tedeschi met Jones and Susan told the crowd as much at SummerStage. Susan and Sharon dueted on Sam Cooke’s “Bring It On Home To Me” and Etta James’ “Tell Mama” as they would numerous times throughout the first Wheels Of Soul Tour. Doyle Bramhall II also contributed to both songs. The Tedeschi Trucks Band went on to end their set with “Idle Wind” and “I Pity The Fool” and treated the crowd to a “Bound For Glory” encore.
