Tedeschi Trucks Band Welcomes Los Lobos Members In Charlotte

Tedeschi Trucks Band continued their collaboration with Wheels Of Soul tour mates Los Lobos in Charlotte on Saturday. The concert at the PNC Music Pavilion saw Los Lobos members Steve Berlin and Alfredo Ortiz sitting in with the TTB.

Tedeschi Trucks Band kicked off the show with the title track to their 2013 album Made Up Mind followed by “Anyhow.” Guitarist Derek Trucks and vocalist/guitarist Susan Tedeschi then led their band through material from the first installment in their four-part I Am The Moon studio album project beginning with I Am The Moon: I. Crescent’s “Hear My Dear.”

Next, Los Lobos saxophonist Steve Berlin joined the TTB horn section for “Fall In.” After “I Am The Moon,” Los Lobos percussionist Alfredo Ortiz added to an extended version of I Am The Moon: I. Crescent instrumental “Pasaquan.” Ortiz helped out on the 20-minute rendition which contained a drums segment.

TTB then went it alone for Dr. John’s “I Walk On Guilded Splinters” ahead of “La Di Da” which appears on I Am The Moon: II. Ascension. Blind Joe Reynolds’ “Outside Woman Blues” followed before the band dipped into the Susan Tedeschi solo catalog with “Just Won’t Burn.” Made Up Mind’s “Part Of Me” came next ahead of the TTB classic “Midnight In Harlem.”

TTB paired up “I Want More” and The Allman Brothers Band instrumental “Les Brers In A Minor” to close the main set. Tedeschi Trucks Band returned for a two-song encore beginning with I Am The Moon: II. Ascension’s “So Long Savior.” TTB closed the evening with the Matthew Moore-penned, Joe Cocker-recorded “Space Captain.”
