Tedeschi Trucks Band Busts Out Derek & The Dominos Cover In Milwaukee

Back on Saturday, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi sat-in with Eric Clapton at the Greenwich Town Party in Greenwich, Connecticut. The pair may have been inspired by Slowhand as the Tedeschi Trucks Band dusted off their rendition of “Tell The Truth” from Clapton’s Derek & The Dominos project last night at The Riverside Theater in Milwaukee.

Last night’s Tedeschi Trucks Band show began with a run of originals “Don’t Let Me Slide,” “Don’t Know What It Means” and “All That I Need” before Susan led the group on a tender cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Bird On A Wire.” Next up was a “Right On Time” that showcased the band’s horn section. Then, the Tedeschi Trucks Band lit into “Tell The Truth” for the first time since 2007 as per Setlist.FM’s records. Derek and Susan’s outfit was known as the Soul Stew Revival at the time as the ensemble didn’t perform under the Tedeschi Trucks Band moniker until 2010. Susan did a fantastic job with the lead vocals and also took a stellar solo. Mike Mattison fronted the group on a verse, while Derek displayed his slide skills during his own solo.

Tuesday’s concert continued with a Mattison-sung version of Allen Toussaint’s “Get Out Of My Life, Woman” and a “Midnight In Harlem” that featured an impressive solo from Derek Trucks. Last night’s 13-song main set from the TTB was also highlighted by a take on “Mahjoun” from Trucks’ Derek Trucks Band days, an extended “Shame” and the group’s inspired cover of “Space Captain.” A two-song encore of “Statesboro Blues” and “Bound For Glory” brought the concert to a close.
