Technical Issues Interfere With Radiohead’s Coachella Set

Last night Radiohead headlined the first night of the first weekend of the 2017 Coachella Valley Music And Arts Festival. The band’s return to Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, California was marred by several disruptive problems with the sound system that prompted their show to be stopped a number of times.

Radiohead opened with the current customary trio of A Moon Shaped Pool tracks, “Daydreaming,” “Desert Island Disk” and “Ful Stop.” The sound coming from stage dropped out during “Ful Stop” and two songs later the sound cut out again during “15 Step.” Frontman Thom Yorke then led the band off stage while the technical issues were addressed.

“The National Anthem” was played following the break in action but sound issues persisted while they played “Let Down,” and the band once again left the stage while crews worked to correct the problems. Upon returning to the stage to restart with “Street Spirit (Fade Out),” Pitchfork reports Yorke stated, “I’d love to tell you a joke, lighten the mood, something like that, but this is Radiohead, so fuck it.”

The rest of the performance included takes on selections such as “Bloom,” “There There,” “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi,” “Everything in Its Right Place” and “Creep.” The encore worked in “You And Whose Army?,” “No Surprises,” “Paranoid Android,” “Bodysnatchers” and “Karma Police.”
