TAUK Enlists Neighbor Members For Brassy ‘Holy Ghost Of New Orleans’ Single

TAUK collaborated with Neighbor on “Holy Ghost Of New Orleans.” The recently released single features contributions from members of both bands along with a four-piece horn section.

“This collaboration with Neighbor was different from others we’ve done in the past because it was really half of each band,” TAUK guitarist Matt Jalbert told JamBase. “We had myself and [drummer] Isaac [Teel] from TAUK and [vocalist/keyboardist] Ricky [James] and [bassist] Dan [Kelly] from Neighbor. Sometimes the schedule can make getting everybody together tricky. But for this we thought having a split band thing could be cool. [TAUK’s] Alric “A.C.” Carter ended up adding some keys later on and we added the horns as well.”

The horns come courtesy of saxophonists Matt Wayne and Tommy Weeks, trombonist Rob Krahn and trumpeter James Cronin. Wayne, Krahn and Cronin have performed with Neighbor as part of the expanded Neighbor 9 lineup, while Weeks is a member of The Funky Dawgz.

“‘Holy Ghost’ started out with an idea I sent out. It was more of a groove track at first and everybody was liking it. The night before we got together in the studio Ricky got some inspiration for some lyrics and had an idea to give it more of a New Orleans feel,” added Jalbert. “Isaac, myself, Ricky and Dan got together the next day and it was off to the races. Dan had some great bass line ideas and we just pieced things together throughout the day. We ended up with a truly collaborative track. This is what’s so fun about getting together in this form. Everybody brings ideas to the table and the song really comes to life. I love where this song ended up with this spooky shuffle funk feel and the horns bring it all together.”
