Tank and the Bangas released video featuring a performance of “Stolen Fruit” filmed live at Esplanade Studios in New Orleans. The track appears on the NOLA-based group’s Red Balloon, a studio album that arrives via Verve Forecast on May 13.
Red Balloon marks the third Tank & The Bangas album and first full-length LP since 2019’s Green Balloon. Recorded during sessions held in New Orleans and Los Angeles, the 16-track effort came together while the group featuring frontwoman Tarriona “Tank” Ball, keyboardist Norman Spence, drummer Joshua Johnson and multi-instrumentalist Albert Allenback was off the road due to the pandemic. “We needed a time to be away from the road so that we could cultivate something new, and cultivate who we were,” explained Tank.

Tank & The Bangas shared “Stolen Fruit” as the third Red Balloon single following “No ID” and “Black Folk.” The song arrived in February in tribute to Black History Month. “‘Stolen Fruit’ is basically about the slave trade,” stated Ball. “There’s ‘Strange Fruit,’ and I call this one ‘Stolen Fruit,’ because not only were the fruit strange, but they were also stolen. They weren’t from here.”
