Tame Impala performed a cover of The Strokes’ “Last Nite” to start their encore on Thursday at the Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona, Spain. The tribute came as The Strokes’ headlining set at Primavera Sound Barcelona that was scheduled for tonight, Friday, June 3, was canceled after a member of the band tested positive for COVID-19.
Kevin Parker and company delivered a rendition of the Is This It single that stayed faithful to the original as the crowd sang along with the lyrics. “Last Nite” came before Tame Impala closed their appearance with “The Less I Know The Better” and “New Person, Same Old Mistakes” from 2015’s Currents.
Tame Impala’s main set at Primavera Sound was an 11-song affair that included material from each of the band’s four studio albums. “One More Year” from 2020’s The Slow Rush opened and the album was also represented in the setlist with “Borderline,” “Breathe Deeper” and “Lost In Yesterday.” Additional Currents tracks performed were “Nangs,” “Let It Happen” and “Eventually,” while Tame Impala closed the frame with “Runaway, Houses, City, Clouds” — the lone song played off 2010’s Innerspeaker. The set also featured “Elephant,” “Apocalypse Dreams” and “Eventually” from 2012’s Lonerism.
The Strokes previously pulled out of last weekend's Boston Calling music festival due to the COVID-19 case. The group is currently slated to play the second weekend of Primavera Sound Barcelona one week from today.
