Centennial Olympic Park :: Atlanta

This year’s installment of the SweetWater 420 Fest started on Friday at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta. Happy Ending Productions organized the event for sponsoring host SweetWater Brewing Company which features four stages and an “Experience Tent.” Local Atlanta band Moontower kicked off the festivities with a set on the Planet 420 Stage they got to play after winning a contest. The Planet 420 Stage also hosted performances from blues singer Samantha Fish, Vermont jam quartet Twiddle and hip-hop star Talib Kweli. Over on the SweetWater Stage, Dirty Heads showed off their reggae-heavy music ahead of a 105-minute set from moe. The jam stalwarts worked in plenty of beloved classics such as “Moth,” “Kids,” “Lazarus,” “Jazz Wank,” “Buster” and “Akimbo” within their improv-heavy performance.

Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio headlined Friday at SweetWater 420 Fest with two sets from his Trey Anastasio Band outfit. TAB fit many heavy rotation gems into their sets including “Sand,” “Cayman Review,” “Gotta Jibboo,” “First Tube,” “Simple Twist Up Dave” and “Alive Again.” Friday’s second TAB set featured the return of “Mr. Completely” which hadn’t been played since 2014 and the recently-debuted original “Everything’s Right.” Anastasio and his troupe brought the action to a close with an encore of traditional Irish ditty “The Parting Glass” and a typically frenzied “Push On ‘Til The Day.”

The festival continues on Saturday with performances from Widespread Panic, Slightly Stoopid, Anders Osborne, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Dopapod and more. Photographer Ian Rawn has shared an extensive gallery documenting the action at the first day of SweetWater 420 Fest ’17:
