Sufjan Stevens Shares 2 New Songs In Celebration Of Pride Month

By Andy Kahn May 29, 2019 11:30 am PDT

Sufjan Stevens shared two new songs, “Love Yourself” and “With My Whole Heart.” The tracks were released in celebration of Pride Month.

Stevens wrote and recorded the initial sketch for “Love Yourself” in 1996 (the original 4-track demo and brief instrumental reprise were also issued digitally). A recent attempt to “write an upbeat and sincere love song without conflict, anxiety or self-deprecation” resulted in Stevens’ recording “With My Whole Heart.”

The tracks are currently available on digital streaming services and will be issued via Asthmatic Kitty as a limited edition 7-inch vinyl record on June 28. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Ali Forney Center in Harlem, New York and the Ruth Ellis Center in Detroit, Michigan. Both organizations offer support services for America’s LGBTQ and homeless youth. Head here to purchase a Pride t-shirt designed by Stevens and stream the project below:
