The String Cheese Incident Welcomes Sheryl Renee & Kamasi Washington At Red Rocks

Colorado jam-rockers The String Cheese Incident continued a three-show run at the famed Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado on Saturday night. Saxophonist Kamasi Washington kicked off the action with an opening set and later joined SCI as did members of his band and vocalist Sheryl Renee.
The show began with classics “Restless Wind” and “Best Feeling” ahead of the first “Rain” since 2014. Later in the set Washington emerged for a cover of John Coltrane’s “Impressions.” Kamasi stuck around while members of his band and Sheryl Renee came out to help out on the set’s finale – a party-like cover of Sly & The Family Stone’s “I Want To Take You Higher.” The Sly cover was last played on Halloween during the band’s Ghoul Train set.
Kamasi wasn’t done yet as he came back out to add to SCI’s second set sequence of “45th Of November” > “Bumpin’ Reel.” The Colorado act ended the closing stanza with a run of “Colorado Bluebird Sky,” “Sirens” > “Desert Dawn.” The String Cheese Incident had one major surprise left as they began their encore with Sheryl Renee leading them through a debut cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams.” One of the group’s newest songs, “Believe,” put an exclamation mark on the night. SCI concludes the Red Rocks run tonight. A webcast is available via nugs.tv.
