The inaugural Los Muertos con Queso destination festival continued on Friday at the Barceló Maya in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Jackie Greene kicked off the action with a performance that was followed by a pair of sets from Colorado’s The String Cheese Incident.

Cheese started their first of two sets in Mexico on Friday with “Lonesome Fiddle Blues” followed by the pairing of “These Waves,” “Djibouti Bump” and “Let’s Go Outside.” The focus on originals continued with “Barstool,” “Joyful Sound,” “Rumble” and “Sand Dollar.” Last night’s opening stanza came to a climax with SCI’s first cover of “That’s What Love Will Make You Do” since July 26, 2003. The band was joined by keyboardist Jason Crosby and Jackie Greene for the JGB staple.

The String Cheese Incident filled Friday’s second set with fan favorites starting with “Beautiful” and continuing with “Close Your Eyes,” “Mouna Bowa” and “Sing A New Song.” A well-jammed “Rivertrance” came next ahead of “Can’t Wait Another Day” and the funk workout “Rosie.” Last night’s encore began with a group hoot followed by a take on Paul Simon’s “Under African Skies.” Cheese then worked the intro to “Orange Blossom Special” into “Colorado Bluebird Sky” to end the evening.
