Colorado’s The String Cheese Incident continued their March Madness Tour last night with the second of two shows at San Diego’s Observatory North Park. In typical Cheese fashion, the band mixed a diverse batch of covers with career-spanning originals over the course of the evening.
SCI opened with their Keller Williams collaboration “Best Feeling” which they segued into a cover of “I Know You Rider.” Bassist Keith Moseley then led his mates through “Sometimes A River” ahead of just the fourth “SKAT” since 2006. One of the evening’s biggest surprises came next as Cheese worked a jam on “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees into “Way That It Goes.” The group had only played the Bee Gees classic twice as they debuted the cover on New Year’s Eve ’02 – ’03 and then again at Bonnaroo ’07. Bill Nershi’s “Wake Up” led into the classic “Round The Wheel” to close out the first set.
The year’s first “Dirk” opened the second set. “Give Me The Love” made its first appearance of March Madness ahead of “Valley Of The Jig” and the second performance of the recently debuted Jim Croce cover “Age.” Up next was “You’ve Got The World” before “Land’s End” > “Restless Wind” closed out set two. The String Cheese Incident bid San Diego farewell by dusting off their cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy For The Devil” which was debuted at Hulaween ’14 and had only been performed two other times before last night.
Tuesday night’s San Diego opener featured the tour’s first debut of an original. Watch Kyle Hollingsworth’s “Falling Through The Cracks” as shot by LoadOffAnnie:
