Sting released a new single, “I Wrote Your Name (Upon My Heart).” The song marks the legendary artist’s first new music since his 2021 album The Bridge.
Sting recorded “I Wrote Your Name (Upon My Heart)” with his newly minted power trio, drummer Chris Maas and guitarist Dominic Miller, who are set to kick off the North American Sting 3.0 Tour later this month. Sting adds his signature bass and also guitar on the track. Producer Martin Kierszenbaum contributed organ.

“I Wrote Your Name (Upon My Heart)” is a throwback to classic Sting with perhaps a tinge of The Police. The song utilizes the famed “Bo Diddley Beat.” A press release for the track gave some history on the ubiquitous rhythm.
In “I Wrote Your Name (Upon My Heart),” Sting and his three-piece rock combo uncork a variation of what renowned computer scientist Dr. Godfried Toussaint called “The Rhythm that Conquered the World.” From its West African origins and its “3-2 clave” incarnation in Latin music to its prominent feature in Bo Diddley’s 1955 self-titled single, the “Bo Diddley Beat,” by which it’s also become known, [the rhythm] has fueled some of the most driving songs in the entire Rock music canon.
Sting adds to the canon with “I Wrote Your Name (Upon My Heart).” Watch the accompanying music video below:
