Sting played an impromptu version of his 1996 hit “I’m So Happy I Can’t Stop Crying” during his concert on Wednesday night at Nashville’s Ascend Amphitheater. The renowned musician last performed the song back in 2017.

“I’m So Happy I Can’t Stop Crying” came in the middle of The Police co-founder’s 22-song concert. Sting explained he had two ambitions. His first was to make a living as a musician and the second was to become a cowboy. “That love of Westerns then morphed into a great love for country and western music,” Sting revealed. He added he tried “his hand at the genre” but lacked the authenticity “because I’m not from Nashville, I’m from the north of England.”

Sting went on to add how excited he was when Toby Keith covered “I’m So Happy I Can’t Stop Crying” and asked his band if they could play the song. He gave the direction “F#” and the group pulled off an impressive rendition of a tune previously performed on March 5, 2017 as per Setlist.FM.

The rest of the concert featured a career-spanning setlist. Sting played five songs from his 2021 album The Bridge along with Police classics such as “Message In A Bottle,” “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” and “Roxanne” as well as solo hits including “Desert Rose,” “Brand New Day” and “Fields Of Gold.”
