Last night guitarist Steve Kimock and his latest ensemble began a run of East Coast shows at The Hamilton in Washington, D.C. As was promised pre-tour, Kimock and the band played songs from Steve’s repertoire as well as Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia classics on opening night in D.C. For this run Kimock is joined by bassist Bobby Vega, drummer Jay Lane, vocalist Leslie Mendelson, keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and guitarist Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz. The set started with the Kimock-penned instrumental “Tangled Hangers” and continued with Lebo leading the group through “Hi Heeled Sneakers.” Mendelson emerged next to sing “Waiting For A Miracle.” Then Lebo fronted the ensemble on a “Bird Song” that segued into “My Favorite Things” and back. Set One came to a close with “Scarlet Begonias.”
Lebo was back up front to lead Kimock and Co. on the “He Ain’t Give You None” second set opener. Mendelson returned for “Oh Babe, It Ain’t No Lie” and “How Sweet It Is” which was followed by another Steve-penned instrumental, “It’s Up To You.” The evening ended with Lebo and Leslie teaming up to sing “The Harder The Come” and “That’s Alright, Mama.”
Next up for the band is a performance at NYC’s Highline Ballroom tonight.
