Acclaimed singer-songwriter Steve Forbert recently released an album of covers entitled Early Morning Rain via Blue Rose Music. JamBase is pleased to premiere the official video for Forbert’s rendition of the Grateful Dead’s “Box Of Rain” he recorded for Early Morning Rain.

“Last year I recorded ‘Box Of Rain’ along with 10 other favorites and called the collection Early Morning Rain,” Forbert told JamBase. “If you like this version of the Grateful Dead classic, you’ll like the mood of my album.”

“There’s nothing like an old truck to start off a video, especially if you’re reaching back in time to begin with,” said Forbert of the clip. “Robert Hunter’s splintered sunlight lyric gives us several kind suggestions. It’s a friendly sort of tune and that’s what director, Tom Parr, and I went for with this video.”

Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh co-wrote “Box Of Rain” with Hunter. The band originally released the song on their 1970 studio album, American Beauty. Watch Steve Forbert’s “Box Of Rain” video below:
