Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks Quiet Music Festival 2015

Last summer Portland, Oregon hosted the 5th Annual Quiet Music Festival featuring stripped-down performances over two days at the Disjecta Contemporary Art Center including hometown outfit Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks. The band’s cover-filled, toned-down set was recorded and has been shared in its entirety.

Performing despite an absent Jake Morris, Malkmus and his band delivered an unusual set filled with songs – including a number of covers – they rarely, if ever, play live. Here’s what Jick Mike Clark posted regarding the performance and recording process:

Back in the sweltering summer of ’15, The Jicks were invited to play the 5th Annual Quiet Music Festival, in the heart of Portland’s historic Kenton neighborhood. Despite the fact that Jake was out of town, and that we don’t normally play at a volume you can nap to, we rose to the challenges of this unique opportunity to play an intimate, unusual, and idiosyncratic set of re-arranged songs, one-off covers, and deep rarities from the depths of our catalog. It was captured on analog 2-track 1/4″ tape, and is now available for streaming and download via the QMF’s bandcamp page. Check it out and see what all the hype is about, if only to hear what might be the only time we ever played ultra-rare s/t album track “Deado” live.
