The Late Show With Stephen Colbert kicked off a new series, “Under The Covers,” with a special performance by St. Vincent (Annie Clark). The fresh covers series launched with a memorable take on David Bowie’s “Young Americans.”

Before performing, Clark spoke to host Stephen Colbert about what he described as the late-night talk show’s “critically described series, ‘Under The Covers,’ where we have great musical artists cover someone else’s great song.” Clark discussed artists she would like to cover St. Vincent songs, including The Slits, Erykah Badu and Doechii.

The interview also touched on Clark’s favorite covers (The Slits’ “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” and Jeff Buckley’s “Hallelujah”). Clark also spoke about covering David Bowie’s “Young Americans” at the 2023 Love Rocks NYC concert at The Beacon Theatre that Colbert attended.

For her “Young Americans” performance on Colbert, Clark swapped “President Biden” for the usual “President Nixon” lyric. Watch their chat and the first “Under The Covers” performance on Colbert below:
