Singer/guitarist Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent has contributed a cover of The Rolling Stones’ 1980 smash “Emotional Rescue” to the upcoming soundtrack for A Bigger Splash. Audio of St. Vincent’s Stones cover has surfaced and can be streamed below.
Stereogum’s report on Annie’s “Emotional Rescue” includes Clark’s thoughts on the track:
i saw an 11 AM showing of “i am love” at the sunshine cinema on houston street. i walked out of the theater in a daze, wandered into a nearby church, found the last pew, and wept for an hour. so when luca asked me to be involved in his latest film, i said yes a thousand times and then once more. luca, tilda fucking swinton, ralph, matthias, dakota– all made a beautiful film. so proud to have worked with sounwave(!!!) and terrace martin(!!!) on this stones track. they are a dream team. hope you enjoy. xx
A Bigger Splash stars Tilda Swinton and Ralph Fiennes. The film is due out May 13 here in the states with the soundtrack due February 19 overseas. Take a listen to St. Vincent’s cover of “Emotional Rescue”:
The Rolling Stones waited until May 3, 2013 to perform “Emotional Rescue” live and performed the song a total of 20 times with the most recent take occurring on May 26, 2014.
