Austin-based band Spoon issued the single “Wild” on streaming services and via a black-and-white video. The song from the group’s forthcoming Lucifer On The Sofa album was originally released last month exclusively on vinyl and was performed regularly by Spoon in concert last fall.
Lucifer On The Sofa is due out through Matador Records on February 11. The 10-track LP marks the first new Spoon album since 2017’s Hot Thoughts. Mark Rankin (Adele, Queens of the Stone Age) co-produced Lucifer On The Sofa, which was recorded in the band’s hometown of Austin.
“We were mid putting this video together and my friend Ben asked ‘Is Spoon the best band?’ Yes. Yep. Probably. There’s always something unexpected in the familiar with Spoon,” stated Brook Linder, who co-directed the “Wild” video with Ben Chappell. “They are mythic to me somehow, and ‘WILD’ needed to feel like a myth, or at least illustrate the myth-making process in some odd way. We used the old ways – crude in-camera techniques – to hit this uncanny western film note. [Spoon frontman] Britt [Daniel] is the quintessential western hero. Had a blast 10/10 would do again.”
