Spafford concluded their 2024 Winter Tour at Chicago’s Thalia Hall on Saturday. The concert ended with a “Bang The Drum All Day” bust out with frequent Spaff collaborator saxophonist Jason Singer.
Spafford kicked off their encore in Chicago with original “Legend,” which also featured Singer. Drummer Nick Tkachyk then came out from behind the kit to sing Todd Rundgren’s “Bang The Drum All Day.”
“We’re gonna play this song, it basically explains me as a child with an infatuation with drums and not for school,” Nick said ahead of the Rundgren cover. “This song has absolutely nothing to do with football,” he added, presumably a reference to Chicago Bears arch rival Green Bay Packers’ touchdown song.

The Chicago play marked the second time Spafford covered “Bang The Drum.” The band debuted the song on October 29, 2016 in Phoenix in their home state of Arizona for a gap of 570 shows, according to Spaffnerds.

The quartet launched the concert with a four-song first set that saw +15-minute renditions of “Ain’t That Wrong” and “Walls.” The first frame ended with a monster version of “The Postman.” The second set was bookend by “In The Eyes Of Thieves” in which they fit “Electric Taco Stand,” “Dis Go In 5?” and a cover of Demi Lovato’s “Anyone.”
