Sombr Brings Out Goo Goo Dolls’ Johnny Rzeznik For ‘Iris’ In Orlando

sombr teamed with the writer of “Iris” for a performance of the Goo Goo Dolls hit on Sunday at Kia Center in Orlando, Florida. Goo Goo Dolls’ Johnny Rzeznik joined the singer-songwriter during his You Are The Reason Tour stop.

Sombr, born Shane Boose, had previously shared a cover of “Iris” online, earning an endorsement from Goo Goo Dolls. The band reposted the clip with the message, “We love this, sombr.” Sunday’s collaboration paired the young artist with Rzeznik for a song that has found a new audience nearly three decades after its release.

Rzeznik wrote “Iris” for the soundtrack to the 1998 film City Of Angels. Goo Goo Dolls also included the track on their album Dizzy Up The Girl later that year.

The song’s recent resurgence has unfolded across several waves of social media attention. Last year, Vulture linked a streaming surge to TikToks about Love Island USA’s TJ Palma and Iris Kendall. According to a March announcement from Goo Goo Dolls, “Iris” amassed over 1 billion streams worldwide in 2025 alone.

Another TikTok trend this year paired the song with throwback photos answering the question “What were you like in the ’90s?” As Stereogum reported in March, the trend also inspired SZA to share her own rendition.

In Orlando, “Iris” appeared between “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind” and “Undressed.” Sombr opened with “We Never Dated” and later performed “Back To Friends” before closing with two takes on “12 To 12,” the second designated as a no-phones performance on the setlist.

Sombr praised Rzeznik as a “legend” and someone he “looks up to very much” in introducing the Goo Goo Dolls frontman. Rzeznik emerged to raptruous applause before dueting with Sombr on “Iris.”
