So Many Roads | Grateful Dead Interdisciplinary Conference

So Many Roads – the World In the Grateful Dead, is an interdisciplinary conference celebrating the diverse roles the iconic American band has played in arts and culture since their formation nearly 50 years ago that will be held November 5 -8 in San Jose State University’s student union.

The conference is sponsored by San Jose State University in partnership with the Grateful Dead Archive at the University of California at Santa Cruz, Rhino Records, Grateful Dead Productions, and Ice Nine Publishing. David Lemieux, Blair Jackson, Rosie McGee, Trixie Garcia and Stanley Mouse are among the 50 speakers announced thus far that includes an international roster of academics, band family members and associates, journalists, artists, musicians, and authors of books about various aspects of the Dead phenomenon. Panels will explore the band’s influence in such diverse areas as politics, business, journalism, religious studies, and even gourmet cooking.

The conference will host a celebration of San Francisco poster art, featuring artists including Stanley Mouse, David Singer, and Chris Shaw, in conjunction with a major exhibit of Dead posters in the SJSU library on Friday, November 7.
