Snarky Puppy Perform NPR ‘Tiny Desk Concert’

Snarky Puppy recently stopped by NPR Music’s Washington D.C. headquarters to film an installment of the Tiny Desk Concert video series. The ensemble fit performances of two songs into their 20-minute set at Bob Boilen’s desk.
The lineup of bassist Michael League, drummer “JT” Thomas, percussionist Nate Werth, keyboardists Shaun Martin and Bobby Sparks, multi-instrumentalist Justin Stanton, trumpeter Jay Jennings, saxophonist Chris Bullock, guitarist Chris McQueen and violinist Zack Brock worked through “Tarova” from 2016’s Culcha Vulcha first. Next, League led a musical experiment by dividing the small audience into two parts, one of which clapped a 3/4 beat while the other was tasked with clapping at 4/4. Snarky Puppy then wrapped their Tiny Desk Concert with “Xavi” off their latest album, Immigrance, and had the crowd show off the clapping skills they just learned towards the end of the song.
