Legendary Sly & the Family Stone frontman Sly Stone has announced his memoir, Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin), will arrive on October 17. The tome will be released by Questlove‘s new AUWA Books imprint in the U.S. and White Rabbit Books in the U.K.

Sly Stone wrote the book with Ben Greenman whose resume includes working on memoirs with George Clinton and Brian Wilson. Questlove penned a foreword for Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin).

“For as long as I can remember folks have been asking me to tell my story. I wasn’t ready. I had to be in a new frame of mind to become Sylvester Stewart again to tell the true story of Sly Stone,” the elusive Sly Stone stated. “It’s been a wild ride and hopefully my fans enjoy it too.”

Sly Stone rose to fame in the mid-1960s leading Sly & The Family Stone on a string of hits that included “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin),” “I Want To Take You Higher,” “Dance To The Music” and “Everyday People.” The band released such acclaimed albums as 1969’s Stand!, 1971’s There’s A Riot Goin’ On and 1973’s Fresh.

Stone’s career imploded thanks in part to a decades-long battle with drug addiction and an entanglement of legal issues. He became a reclusive figure who only made sporadic appearances in public. Sly became clean in recent years.
