Sleater-Kinney returned to the stage on Sunday at San Francisco’s Stern Grove Festival for their first public performance since October. Carrie Brownstein, Corin Tucker and company had several surprises in store as they dusted off “Far Away,” premiered “This Time” and unveiled takes on songs by Green Day and the Ramones.
The free concert at the amphitheater at Sigmund Stern Grove in the Sunset District came as part of the 88th Stern Grove Festival season. Destroy Boys opened the show.

Sleater-Kinney performed material from eight of their 11 studio albums in San Francisco. The band delivered the live debut of “This Time” towards the middle of the set. “This Time” is an outtake from the group’s 2024 album, Little Rope, they released last fall on the deluxe edition of the LP.
The quintet closed their main set with “Far Away,” a song from 2002’s One Beat last performed in 2017. Sleater-Kinney came back for a three-song encore. Brownstein fronted the band on their first-ever cover of the Ramones’ “Judy Is A Punk Rocker” before Tucker led them through Green Day’s “Holiday.” A rousing rendition of “Entertain” off 2005’s The Woods wrapped the show.
