Sideboob is an all-star supergroup led by Shook Twins, Yonder Mountain String Band‘s Allie Kral and Mimi Naja of Fruition that formed a few years back for a set at the Northwest String Summit. The group’s sets have gone on to become a yearly tradition at the festival in North Plains, Oregon and JamGrass.TV shared pro-shot videos from their performance at the 2019 String Summit.

The musicians bonded over their love of 1990s R&B and loaded their set with songs from the era. For their 2019 set, Shook Twins, Karl and Naja formed a core band with Alexis Mahler, Alex Radakovich, Kat Fountain and Megan Letts. Sideboob was joined by Anna Moss for their rendition of Shania Twain’s “Man I Feel That A Woman” that kicked off the set. Then, the group performed Jennifer Paige’s “Crush,” Donna Lewis’ “I Love You Always Forever,” Natalie Merchant’s “Carnival” and Christina Aguilera’s “Genie In A Bottle.”

Sidebook was augmented by Ley Line, Sweet Lillies and Five Letter Word for En Vogue’s “My Lovin’ You’re Never Gonna Get It” before Moss and Lindsay Lou helped out on a Fugees style “Killing Me Softly With His Song” and Janet Jackson’s “What Have You Done For Me Lately?” A string section joined in the action for a rendition of TLC’s “No Scrubs” before Sideboob performed “Dreams” by The Cranberries.

The strings returned for a cover of Macy Gray’s “I Try” and then Allie Kral led a take on Meredith Brooks’ “Bitch.” Finally, Sideboob loaded the stage with all of their guests, dancers, AC Sapphire, Sarah Clarke and Melly Fances to conclude the set with a rousing rendition of Destiny’s Child’s “Survivor.”
