Sharon Van Etten will release her sixth studio album, We’ve Been Going About This All Wrong, through Jagjaguwar on May 6. While Van Etten decided against issuing singles in advance of the LP’s release, she did share a trailer for the record.
The follow-up to 2019’s Remind Me Tomorrow was co-produced with Daniel Knowles. Van Etten recorded and engineered the 10-track effort during sessions held at a new studio she built at her home in Los Angeles. Sharon provided most of the instrumentation on We’ve Been Going About This All Wrong while backed by touring band members drummer Jorge Balbi, bassist Devon Hoff and multi-instrumentalist/live musical director Charley Damski.
As previously noted, Sharon Van Etten will not put out preview singles as recently released tracks “Used To It” and “Porta” do not appear on the album. “I wanted to approach this release differently, to engage my fans in an intentional way, in an effort to present the album as a whole body of work,” Van Etten explained. “These ten songs are designed to be listened to in order, at once, so that a much larger story of hope, loss, longing and resilience can be told.”
