Seth Avett of The Avett Brothers performed a tender cover of the Grateful Dead‘s “It Must Have Been The Roses” while sitting on a porch swing. Avett posted video of the performance to his Instagram page.
Robert Hunter wrote both the words and music for “It Must Have Been The Roses.” The Grateful Dead debuted the song live on February 22, 1974 at the Winterland in San Francisco. Seth noted he learned the version found on the Dead’s 1981 live album, Reckoning. In 2016, The Avett Brothers honored Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia by recreating a Jerry Garcia Band show with help from Warren Haynes.
