Watch Scott Metzger Play Part Of Phish’s ‘Sample In A Jar’

Guitarist Scott Metzger of Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Showdown Kids and various other projects shared a video on his Instagram page in which he performs part of the solo from the Phish classic “Sample In A Jar.” The video came in response to a tweet from Amar Sastry, a musician who often posts his own takes on Phish songs and dissects tunes for his YouTube channel.
“I don’t care how good you are at guitar, improvising through those changes in ‘Sample in a Jar’ is hard as fuck and if you say otherwise you are either a liar or Scott Metzger,” Sastry tweeted on April 14 in regards to Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio‘s solo in the song. The tweet made its way back to Metzger, who was inspired to give the “Sample” solo a shot.
“I see what [Amar] means – this doesn’t play itself,” Metzger wrote in a comment accompanying the video. “Spent a little time with it — thanks for the props and the inspiration, dude.” Watch Scott’s “Sample In A Jar” solo below:
