Saturday Stream: Spotify Sessions Playlist

For the past few years Spotify has regularly produced exclusive live recordings made for the streaming platform to release and host on its service. The Spotify Sessions showcase a wide range of recording artists from every genre and scene. A recently issued Spotify Session featured D’Angelo & The Vanguard live from Spotify NYC performing four songs including “Betray My Heart” which clocks in at just under 12-minutes and leads off the Spotify Sessions playlist.

Spotify announced major changes to its platform this week such as the addition of video to the service and more original programs like Spotify Sessions The tracks making up the playlist below were recorded at Spotify facilities in New York City, London, Stockholm, Los Angeles, at music festivals including SXSW, Coachella and Bonnaroo, and other locales such as Water Music in Hoboken, New Jersey.

The diverse lineup of artists comprises the folky Shakey Graves and First Aid Kit, the soulfulness of D’Angelo and Michael Kiwanuka, rock from Umphrey’s McGee, alt-J, Phosphorescent, Band of Horses, Real Estate and Pixies, solo singer-songwriters like Ryan Adams, Courtney Barnett, Laura Marling and Father John Misty and more. At 20-tracks – including the closing Drive-By Truckers selection which mirrors the opening cut at 11+ minutes – the Spotify Sessions playlist totals one hour and 45 minutes of impressive live performances culled together for your listening pleasure.
