San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie revealed Dead & Company will hold concerts in San Francisco this summer, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Grateful Dead. According to Lurie, Dead & Company will be in Golden Gate Park on August 1 – 3.
“We have some really big news,” Laurie said in a video shared on social media. “Dead & Co. will be playing three shows, August 1st, 2nd and 3rd, right here in the city that is the home of the Grateful Dead. What better way to celebrate … we’ll see you out here.”
According to the caption accompanying Laurie’s video, the three shows will be held in Golden Gate Park, where the Grateful Dead performed in various locations, particularly in the late 1960s. The band’s former house at 710 Ashbury St. was located a few blocks from Golden Gate Park and is depicted in the imagery Dead & Co. uses for their Dead Forever Las Vegas Sphere residency shows.
Laurie noted an official announcement from Dead & Company regarding the Golden Gate Park Grateful Dead 60th anniversary concerts is expected soon.
In 2015, the Grateful Dead’s 50th anniversary was celebrated with five “Fare Thee Well” concerts featuring Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir and drummer Mickey Hart (who perform in Dead & Co.), drummer Bill Kreutzmann (formerly of Dead & Co.) and late bassist Phil Lesh, along with one-time Grateful Dead member, keyboardist Bruce Hornsby, Dead & Co. keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio.
Weir, Hart and Kreutzmann revealed there were plans to perform with Lesh in 2025 to recognize the Dead’s 50th anniversary. The former band members spoke to CBS about the scrapped plans following Phil Lesh's death in October 2024 at age 84.
Dead & Company will complete this year’s Dead Forever run with three final Sphere shows this week. The band last played in the Bay Area in July 2023 when they finished what was billed at their Final Tour with three shows at Oracle Park in San Francisco.
