Sammy Hagar Reunites With Jason Bonham At 1st UK Headline Gig In Over 3 Decades

Sammy Hagar kicked off the U.K. leg of his Best Of All Worlds tour on Monday at Civic Hall in Wolverhampton, England, marking his first full show in the country since 1995. The 20-song performance ended with Hagar’s former drummer, Jason Bonham, getting back behind the kit for a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Rock & Roll.”

The Red Rocker will play a series of five shows in the U.K. backed by Van Halen founding bassist Michael Anthony, guitarist Joe Satriani, drummer Kenny Aronoff and keyboardist Nathan Mercado. Hagar’s only other appearance in England over the past three decades came at Black Sabbath's “Back To The Beginning” concert on July 5, 2025, where he performed two songs as part of a supergroup assembled for the occasion.

Last night, Sammy Hagar led his talented ensemble through a mix of songs from his Van Halen days and various solo projects. The setlist followed the same path as Hagar’s recent U.S. shows until the “Rock & Roll” finale. Jason Bonham channeled his father, the late John Bonham, on the Led Zeppelin classic. Hagar covered the song only once prior during his Best Of All Worlds tour.

After touring together for nearly a decade, Jason Bonham missed the last four shows of the initial run Best Of All Worlds tour dates in 2024 to be with his mother, who suffered a stroke. Kenny Aronoff stepped in and did such a good job Hagar tapped him to replace Bonham.

Jason Bonham still thinks highly enough of Sammy Hagar that he dropped in on the Monday night show in Wolverhampton. “I happened to land in UK opening night for best of all worlds tour uk. I had to go see my old band,” Bonham wrote on Instagram. “Now that’s what I call a blast. Love you, Jason like a brother so good to see you and you kicked ass as usual. #Rock’n’Roll,” Hagar responded.

Sammy Hagar performs in Manchester, England tonight (Tuesday, July 7) before concluding his brief UK run with three shows in London. Jason Bonham will be on the road leading Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening for a late-summer North American outing in August and September.
