Less Than Face Productions shared pro-shot video of Sam Grisman Project covering a Jerry Garcia/Robert Hunter favorite at the 2023 FreshGrass Festival at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA) in North Adams. The footage features the son of longtime Jerry Garcia collaborator David Grisman and his band performing “Reuben and Cerise.”
Jerry Garcia Band debuted “Reuben and Cerise” on November 21, 1977 in West Hempstead, New York, as per JerryBase. The song would later open (stylized “Rubin And Cherise”) the sole studio album credited to the Jerry Garcia Band, 1978’s Cats Under the Stars. “Reuben and Cerise” was the only song from the album subsequently performed by the Grateful Dead, who debuted the tune on March 17, 1991 in Landover, Maryland.
