Pop star Sabrina Carpenter headlined Outside Lands on Saturday, taking over the top slot after Tyler, the Creator pulled out of the festival held at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. Carpenter surprised fans watching her set by bringing out Kacey Musgraves to help sing “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’.”
Carpenter’s set featured three songs from her highly-anticipated new album arriving on August 23, Short n’ Sweet, performing “Please Please Please” and “Slim Pickins,” as well as her hit “Espresso.” The setlist also featured many selections from Carpenter’s 2022 album, Emails I Can’t Send.

Prior to bringing Musgraves to the Outside Lands stage, Carpenter teased her arrival, telling the audience:
“There’s an artist that I’ve just loved for my entire life and she is just so remarkable in so many ways, and her voice has just taken me through so much of my life and so many pivotal moments and she means the world to me. And somehow she cleared her schedule to be here with us tonight.
“She won’t come out though unless you’re very loud… Bay Area please make some noise for the one and only Kacey Musgraves!”
Musgraves responded by taking the Outside Lands stage and exchanging compliments with Carpenter. The two singers then stood atop separate circular platforms as the band started up “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’.” Written by Lee Hazlewood and covered by numerous other artists over the years, “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’” became a chart-topping hit for Nancy Sinatra in 1966.
