Ryan Adams & Justin Vernon Discuss Bruce Hornsby’s Influence

Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and Ryan Adams are on record as fans of fellow musician Bruce Hornsby. According to Rolling Stone magazine, the pianist’s influence on the pair of multi-talented artists is worthy of inclusion on its Hot List.
Declared a “Hot Surprise Influence” and the “godfather of indie rock” by the outlet, both Vernon and Adams are quoted in the brief writeup. Vernon, who collaborated with Bruce on the Day Of The Dead tribute album and appeared on Hornsby’s Rehab Reunion LP that were issued earlier this year, has long know to be fond of Hornsby . He told Jimmy Fallon back on Late Night “there’s not enough Hornsby in my scene” and they performed together at this past summer’s Eaux Claires festival. Here’s what Justin told Rolling Stone:
He gathers from the Grateful Dead, Keith Jarrett and Sam Cooke – he has it all.
Adams revealed earlier this year that his upcoming new album was inspired in part by the work Hornsby did in the 1980s. “I put all the AC/DC records on from back to front, or I’ll listen to the best of stuff from the ’80s: Springsteen, or [Bruce] Hornsby, and I’ll listen to what is going on there” Adams said about the still yet-to-be-released record. Rolling Stone published this from Ryan regarding Bruce:
Without him, I wouldn’t have decided I can be myself without throwing so much against the wall.
For his part in being surprisingly hot, the godfather of the indies said “I’m a lifelong student .. I’ll take It!”
