Bassist Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson of Rush revealed they have discussed returning to the road with a different drummer replacing the late Neil Peart. The admission came during a CBS Sunday Morning feature on Rush that aired yesterday in promotion of Lee’s recently released My Effin’ Life memoir.

CBS Sunday Morning’s Jim Axelrod spoke with Lee and Lifeson at Henderson’s Brewery in Toronto and asked the pair if they gave thought to recruiting a stellar drummer for a future tour. “Have we talked about it? Yeah. It’s not impossible, but at this point, I can’t guarantee it,” Lee told Axelrod.

Alex Lifeson was more positive with his response. “It’s just not in our DNA to stop,” the guitarist said.

Rush's final show took place at at The Forum in Inglewood, California on August 1, 2015. The drummer was diagnosed with cancer the next year. Neil Peart died in 2020 at the age of 67.

Geddy Lee is currently in the midst of a book tour in which he’s discussing My Effin’ Life at each stop. Alex Lifeson recently sat-in with Tool at the band’s November 21 concert in Toronto.
