Iconic American musician Bob Dylan is at work recording an album of standards at storied Capitol Studios in Hollywood, according to a report by Billboard. Dylan is back a Studio B working on a follow-up to his 36th studio LP Shadows In The Night, released last year featuring standards Frank Sinatra made famous.
Engineer Al Schmitt, who worked on Shadows In The Night, revealed the news about Dylan’s studio work, telling Billboard this regarding the sessions:
He sounds great. His mood in the studio is fabulous. We’re having a good time. We’re like two old shoes together now, we’re so comfortable with one another now … He’s extraordinarily smart and he’s so aware of everything that’s going on, so he knows what’s happening at every moment.
Schmitt did not disclose whether or not the selected standards will again focus on Sinatra’s catalog, nor was there any word regarding a possible release date. Like Shadows In The Night, Dylan is self-producing the record.
Last night, Dylan and The Band won the Grammy Award for Best Historical Album for The Basement Tapes Complete: The Bootleg Series Vol. 11 at the 58th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. For a sample of Dylan’s approach to recording standards, stream “Stay With Me” from Shadows In The Night:
